New Mexico Outfitter Draw
How the Draw System Works
In New Mexico big game hunting licenses are allocated through a lottery-based draw system. There is no point system in New Mexico, so every year, all applicants have an equal chance to draw a tag for a specific hunt.
Increase Your Draw Odds
New Mexico sets aside 10% of tags to applicants who are contracted with an outfitter. Since 84% of tags are set aside for New Mexico residents, applying for a guided hunt tag with our outfitter number can significantly improve your chances compared to applying for an unguided tag. For some hunts with low tag numbers, there may only be guided tags available for nonresidents in the draw.
Costs
If you do your own applications, Frontier Outfitting can supply you unit recommendations and the outfitter number or Frontier Outfitting can do your application for you for a $100 fee.
To apply for tags in New Mexico hunters must pay all tag fees up front and are required to purchase a non-refundable hunting license ($65 non-resident/$15 resident), non-refundable hunting related stamps ($14), and pay a non-refundable application fee ($13 non-residents/$7 residents). At the time of application all fees will be charged to your credit card. If you are unsuccessful, the tag fees will be refunded to your credit card and all non-refundable fees will be kept by the state. All hunts are subject to NM state tax (6.875%).
Deposits
A 50% deposit is required when you draw a tag. All deposits are non-refundable. Final payments are due 30 days prior to the start of the hunt. Please make all deposits, license fees, and final payments payable to Frontier Outfitting. A 50% deposit is required to book landowner tags and private land tags.

Getting started

Frontier Outfitting only applies its clients in the top units located in the state of New Mexico. The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish allows you three different hunt choices when applying. An applicant can mix dates and weapon choices to better their odds of drawing. On one application you can apply up to a party of four. Frontier Outfitting offers Wilderness Hunts, Tent Camps, Lodge and Cabin Hunts. Choose your hunt choices and indicate them on the application form. Please mark below from 1 – 3 your hunt choices. Wilderness, late rifle, muzzle loader and early bow hunts are the easiest hunts to draw. These are trophy quality areas and we recommend that you keep applying until a tag is drawn.
